Southend has held free New Year's Eve fireworks at 6pm and midnight off the pier for two years running. What is confirmed for 31 December 2026 so far.
Southend has put on free New Year’s Eve fireworks over the seafront for the last two years, with a 6pm family display and a midnight display, both fired from a barge east of Southend Pier. The organisers have not yet announced a display for Thursday 31 December 2026.
If the pattern holds, the announcement is due in late November or early December: the 2024 displays were announced on 28 November and the 2025 details were online by 24 November.

What happened the last two years
The first New Year’s Eve seafront fireworks were on 31 December 2024. The council said they were “brought to you by the Southend Tourism Partnership”, with support from Kingpins Southend, Atlantic Pacific, Royals Shopping Centre, Roslin Beach Hotel and the council (council news, 28 November 2024).
They came back “by popular demand” for 31 December 2025, again as two free displays (council events listing, archived December 2025).

Where to watch
The council says the fireworks can be seen all along the seafront, but that City Beach “is the prime spot to catch all the action”. The autumn Saturday fireworks use the same barge position, and the organisers of those say the view stretches from Sea-Life Adventure to the Genting Casino (Visit Southend).
Getting home after midnight
In 2025 neither c2c nor Greater Anglia added trains after midnight on New Year’s Eve, according to National Rail’s list of overnight services (National Rail, archived 19 December 2025).
